Describe how the State’s Strategies will engage the State’s community colleges and area career and technical education schools, as partners in the workforce development system to create a job-driven education and training system. WIOA section 102(b)(2)(B)(iv).

Current Narrative:

The Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity collaborates with, and participates in strategic partnerships with the following partners:
  • Public and independent colleges and universities in the development of training programs to meet employer needs.
  • Michigan Department of Education, for major career education initiatives affecting learners K-12 and beyond, and, for access to, retention in, and completion of individual student goals in quality community colleges, proprietary institutions, and other post-secondary agencies.

Adult Education collaborates with, and participates in strategic partnerships with:

  • Community colleges to identify postsecondary education and training opportunities and entrance requirements to ensure participants are prepared to transition to postsecondary and succeed in postsecondary level course work upon completion of adult education programming.
  • Career and technical education at the secondary level to expand CTE programming opportunities for adult education participants.

The Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity collaborates with, and participates in strategic partnerships with the following partners:

  • Public and independent colleges and universities in the development of training programs to meet employer needs.
  • The Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity and the Michigan Department of Education support career and technical education initiatives affecting learners P-20 and beyond, and, for access to, retention in, and completion of individual student goals in secondary education, proprietary institutions and other postsecondary agencies.

Community colleges collaborate with, and participates in strategic partnerships with:

  • Industry employers to better understand the education and training needs and opportunities as well as entrance requirements to ensure participants are prepared to transition from secondary to postsecondary and succeed in postsecondary level academic and occupational coursework.
  • Industry employers to identify academic and occupational skills needed for entry in to in-demand, high-wage, and high-skills employment.

Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) — Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) and Bureau of Services for Blind Persons (BSBP)

VR has identified partnerships and collaboration with the State’s community colleges and area career and technical education schools as an engagement priority. VR will seek to develop and expand opportunities in this area.
